Plastic Surgeon in Houston Highlights His Innovative Technique for Breast Lift Surgery

Dr. James F. Boynton details the distinctions of a unique mastopexy technique he performs at his Houston plastic surgery practice.

Houston, TX — Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, can be an excellent option for patients seeking to rejuvenate the appearance of sagging, drooping breasts, says Houston plastic surgeon James F. Boynton, MD. At his practice, Dr. Boynton offers a number of different breast lift techniques, enabling him to select the one most appropriate and effective for each of his patient’s unique needs and goals.

In a recent blog post titled, “My Unique Technique for Breast Lift Surgery,” Dr. Boynton highlights a particular approach he frequently employs: “At Boynton Plastic Surgery, I often perform breast lift surgery utilizing a medial pedicle approach, rather than the inferior pedicle Wise-pattern technique.” According to the blog entry, the technique is designed to restrict the majority of tissue removal to the bottom and sides of the breasts while saving more tissue on the top of the breasts. As a result, a shape and projection similar to that created by breast implants can often be achieved because of the design and rotation of the pedicle which creates better projection and shaping to the breast than a traditional inferior pedicle.

Dr. Boynton goes on to describe incision placements for the medial pedicle approach, saying, this technique generally consists of “an incision around the areola, a vertical incision, and a mini lower crease incision.” Though the formation of scars after breast lift surgery is often inevitable, he notes that the appearance of the scars usually fades with time and proper scar management. Additionally, he says liposuction can also be performed when necessary in order to reduce the visibility of any excess fullness from the side that can really impact garment and brassiere fitting after a breast lift.

“Most importantly,” emphasizes Dr. Boynton, “shape wins over scars every time when it comes to breast lift surgery. We make every effort to minimize incision lines using state-of-the-art technologies like embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy, and my technique enables me to produce a rounded shape with good projection that is generally noticeable the day after surgery, as opposed to older techniques that may take months to yield ideal results. In my experience, every woman who puts on a new swimsuit after her mastopexy is thrilled that the lift and shape of her breasts is no longer externally provided solely by garments.”

Ultimately, Dr. Boynton says the technique he uses for breast lift surgery will be determined on an individual basis. In some instances, he notes he will actually employ different techniques on each breast in order to compensate for noticeable asymmetries. Regardless of the technique(s) he utilizes, Dr. Boynton confides that he upholds the highest standards of safety and care in order to most effectively help his patients achieve their cosmetic goals.
