Houston Blepharoplasty Patients Receive More Complete Facial Rejuvenation By Combining Eye And Brow Procedures

Dr. James F. Boynton combines eyelid surgery with BOTOX® injections or brow lifts to address excess skin elasticity around the eye as well as the brow.

Houston, TX – When his patients visit his Houston plastic surgery office for their initial eyelid surgery consultation, Dr. James F. Boynton begins with a simple question: “What bothers you about your eyes?”

In a recent blog post published on the practice’s website titled “Breaking Down Blepharoplasty: The Consultation,” Dr. Boynton outlines the most common answers to this question, including patient concerns such as:

  • Eyes that appear tired
  • Eyes that appear sad
  • Excess layers of inelastic skin around the eye
  • Bulges of fat below the eye
  • Vision impairment from drooping skin

Dr. Boynton, a board-certified plastic surgeon, approaches eyelid surgery in such a way that each patient’s anatomical, gender, and demographic differences are taken into account. He says this approach is intended to achieve the most natural looking results possible with custom-tailored surgical plans. Dr. Boynton operates under the philosophy that eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) should address both the upper and lower eyelids as well as the brow in order to produce a truly rejuvenated look.

After a discussion of the patient’s cosmetic concerns, Dr. Boynton says he evaluates the medical history and eye health of the patient to determine candidacy for eyelid surgery, as well as the best approach to achieve each patient’s aesthetic goals. Because the structures of the eyes and the eyebrows are intimately linked, Dr. Boynton often recommends that his patients consider some type of brow lift to maximize the impact of their final results.

According to another of Dr. Boynton’s blog posts, entitled “Breaking Down Blepharoplasty: My Technique,” there are a number of ways to address brow ptosis (or a drooping of the brow), depending upon the severity of the condition. For patients who have a slight drooping of the brow, he says BOTOX® Cosmetic can often achieve great results without the need for surgery. Dr. Boynton refers to this technique as a “BOTOX® brow lift.” Patients who have more advanced stages of brow ptosis have the option of a traditional surgical brow lift, which Dr. Boynton commonly performs along with eyelid surgery to fully rejuvenate the look of the eyes and surrounding areas.

“Eyelid surgery is something to be taken seriously,” says Dr. Boynton. “Recently, a growing trend has emerged where other specialties have started offering ‘upper lid surgery,’ which is concerning to me.” Dr. Boynton recommends that any potential plastic surgery patient spend time researching before selecting a surgeon. Due to the complications that may arise if performed by unskilled hands, he suggests patients seeking blepharoplasty search for a board-certified plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon, or oculoplastic surgeon, as those surgeons will have completed specialized training in eyelid surgery.
