Houston Plastic Surgeon Discusses Key Advantages of His Short Scar Facelift

James F. Boynton, MD highlights the various benefits of his less invasive approach to facelift surgery.

Houston, TX — Whether caused by genetics and/or a combination of various environmental factors, every individual will eventually begin to develop signs of aging on the face at some point in their life, states Dr. James F. Boynton, a board certified plastic surgeon in Houston. Though these changes may not be bothersome to everyone, he continues, many people seek to improve the appearance of aging indications such as lines, wrinkles, volume loss, and sagging skin in order to maintain a more youthful aesthetic. For patients who are interested in a facial rejuvenation procedure that can comprehensively address their concerns, Dr. Boynton offers a technique called the short scar facelift and neck lift.

“Similar to a mini-facelift,” writes Dr. Boynton in a recent blog post, “the short scar facelift and neck lift is a less invasive yet comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation that can not only help correct lines, wrinkles, and lost volume, it can also address excess skin, sagging jowls, accumulations of fatty tissue, and other common signs of aging.” Generally performed in-office, the procedure involves a well-hidden incision made just inside the base of the sideburn in front of the ear, extending behind the earlobe only. “This helps to avoid the traditional longer incision that continues down the back of the hairline and can often be visible to others, particularly for patients who enjoy wearing their hair in a ponytail,” notes Dr. Boynton. Additionally, a well-disguised incision will be concealed underneath the chin to provide access for optimal tightening of neck muscles, sculpting of fatty tissue, and tightening of skin.

In addition to being performed in the office, other advantages of the short scar facelift and neck lift are that the operation typically does not require general anesthesia and/or an overnight hospital stay, Dr. Boynton states. In most instances, he explains, patients are comfortable with local anesthesia and analgesic medication – such as Valium – for mild relaxation throughout treatment, and they often enjoy the luxury of not having to go to a hospital or off-site surgical center. Further benefits may include a shorter recovery and downtime than traditional facelift surgery due to the combination of limited incisions and no general anesthesia. In fact, the Houston plastic surgeon says most patients generally only need approximately one week to recover.

Ultimately, Dr. Boynton says the short scar facelift and neck lift can achieve exceptionally natural-looking results that are neither over-pulled nor over-tight. “It is my goal to accentuate each patient’s natural beauty without altering the way they look, and I have found that this innovative facelift technique has enabled me to do just that for qualified candidates.”
